The current Civil Defence Academy (CDA) at Jalan Bahar was established in 1999. Prior to that, there was a Civil Defence Camp down the road. The now-defunct army camp has now been revamped into a one stop shop, housing an open-air food court, Sheng Siong supermarket, and a warehouse.
